PetFinder's Adopt the Internet Day Featuring Watauga Humane Society

Petfinder Adopt-the-Internet Day

Out of all of the sweet pets I want to highlight this one on my blog today:

Hope

Terrier/Labrador Retriever Mix: An dog in Maryville, TN

Hope's name reflects her story. She was a stray, and barely making it when someone decided to feed her and find someone to help (us!). She was wearing a collar that was much too small, we think she had been a stray for a while. She is a mixed breed - we think somewhere around the terrier, lab maybe even some greyhound arena. When you adopt her, you can get a DNA test and let us know! She is sweet and submissive, and will happily hang out with other dogs, cats, kids, whoever! She is around 1 year old, 30 lbs. and has been spayed and is up to date on shots. Her adoption fee is $175. For more information on this lovable girl who now has hope for a brighter future, please contact Alida at 865-617-3975. She can't wait to meet you!

Isn't she a beauty.  If you can give HOPE a second chance, please call!

Now, even though I don't live there anymore, my heart is in North Carolina and I want to highlight my favorite Shelter.

Watauga Humane Society was incorporated in December of 1969. We are a not-for-profit charitable organization and dedicated to all aspects of animal welfare. The Watauga Humane Society animal shelter is located off of Casey Lane in Boone, NC.

The shelter has facilities for the housing and care of homeless dogs and cats. We provide food, shelter, medical care and lots of love to the homeless animals at our shelter and we work to find permanent, loving homes for them. In an effort to help control the pet population, we offer low-cost spay/neuter through our partnership with Humane Alliance in Asheville

In order to reduce the confusion between Watauga County Animal Control, a county-run facility that was launched in intervening years, and the Society's animal shelter, the Humane Society of Watauga County, NC changed its name to the Watauga Humane Society in May of 2000.

Through the years, the Society diligently continued to search for suitable property. We advertised for land, contacted all of the Realtors in the area, even wrote to every landowner in Watauga County ~ with no success. In May of 2003, the perfect piece of land in the perfect location was found by one of our members. Thirteen acres were purchased. The property already includes a small house that is the new home for our thrift shop, the Bare Bones Boutique. The manager's home will be built on the premises.

The property has ample room for a much-needed dog park, agility courses, and dog walking trails. The Society is planning a state-of-the-art facility and is committed to creating an environmentally sensitive, or "green" structure, in harmony with a significant piece of property as the shelter site borders the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The Watauga Humane Society’s Irma Baker Lyons Adoption Center is one step closer today as Humane Society members and friends broke ground for the 16,000-square-foot facility on Don Hayes Rd. Humane Society President Shaun Lundy said, “The new adoption center will house twice the number of animals we can accommodate at our current Casey Lane shelter and will make it possible to offer many additional services to both the people and the animals of our community.” The groundbreaking took place Saturday, June 13. Until the new adoption center is completed, we will continue to operate in our current Casey Lane location.
